This policy outlines our approach to hazard identification, risk control, training, equipment safety and ongoing monitoring. It applies to all waste removal, rubbish collection and clearance activities undertaken by the company, whether on-site at domestic premises, communal areas or when loading vehicles for transfer to licensed waste facilities.

Scope and objectives

Our objectives are to prevent injury and ill health, ensure compliance with applicable safety requirements, and continuously improve our performance in waste handling and rubbish clearance operations. We adopt a risk-based approach to manage common hazards associated with bulky item removals, waste segregation, manual handling, vehicle movements and interaction with the public. The policy supports safe systems of work for both routine and non-routine tasks performed by the rubbish company and its clearance teams.

Risk assessments are carried out before each job to identify potential dangers such as trip hazards, sharps, hazardous materials, unstable loads and restricted access. Controls are implemented using the hierarchy of risk control: elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls and personal protective equipment (PPE). All operations will be planned and supervised to reduce exposure to risk and ensure safe completion of the clearance service.

We expect all staff and subcontractors to take responsibility for safety through proactive behaviour, good housekeeping and adherence to safe work procedures. Training, competence and supervision

First aid kits are kept in vehicles and at depots, and designated first aiders are available during working hours.
